Dr. Benitez is the President and Founder of Special Pathways and the fourth generation of educators in her family. Her heart has always longed to serve others, which has driven her dedication to educating children, youth, and adults with neurodiversity for over a decade. Dr. Benitez has created educational programs for Puerto Rico and US non-profit organizations, demonstrating her commitment to inclusive education.
Regarding her academic background, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico and was recognized as having the highest GPA in her major. In her Master's studies, she focused her research on the inclusion of special needs students in mainstream education. In 2021, Dr. Benitez completed her Doctoral Degree from Nova Southeastern University with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Her doctoral research centered on the use of technology to facilitate instruction, highlighting an innovative approach to education.
Dr. Benitez has extensive experience working as a Special Educator, Coach, Workshop / Curriculum Developer, and Educational Supervisor. She has also published educational resources for CPALMS, the largest platform of academic standards in Florida, and conducted three action research projects with students with neurodiversity. Her extensive experience and unwavering commitment to supporting neurodiverse individuals have been instrumental in the foundation and success of Special Pathways.
Elizabeth Monroe serves as the Treasurer and Vice President of Special Pathways. With an extensive background in working with the special needs population, Elizabeth brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her role. Growing up with two siblings who are cognitively impaired, Elizabeth has been deeply connected to the unique needs and challenges faced by this community.
Her professional journey includes a significant tenure as a bus driver for students with special needs at the Polk County School Board, where she ensured the safety and comfort of her passengers. Additionally, she worked as a paraprofessional in separate classes, providing dedicated support to students with severe disabilities and higher needs.
Elizabeth's diverse experience also encompasses roles such as a para-educator in Orange County School, where she contributed to the educational development of special needs students. She also served as a supervisor at a sheltered workshop, overseeing clients working for local companies and ensuring a productive and supportive environment. As a supervisor for high-level men in group home living, she managed day-to-day operations and care. Furthermore, she volunteered as a coach for Special Olympics, demonstrating her commitment to community service and empowerment. As a job coach in Lake County School, she supervised students on job assignments and facilitated their transition to the workforce.
Throughout her career, Elizabeth has been recognized for her exceptional ability to connect with and support individuals with special needs, making her an invaluable asset to Special Pathways. Her extensive experience, combined with her personal connection to the special needs community, fuels her passion for promoting independence and inclusion.
Alondra, the secretary of Special Pathways, is a senior college student majoring in Clinical Psychology at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico. Throughout her academic journey, she has demonstrated exceptional dedication and leadership. She was honored with the Ramon de Jesus Sierra Award and served on the board of the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) as the Publicist. In 2018, Alondra excelled in various competitions, securing local and regional wins. Her commitment to community service is evident through her volunteer work including collaborating with the Independent Living Program and serving as a volunteer in special needs summer camps in Puerto Rico. In 2020, she graduated from the Nursing Program with the Highest Honors.
Alondra is also certified in American Sign Language (ASL) and CPR, enhancing her ability to support diverse communities effectively.
As a member of the Honor Society, she has been recognized for her academic excellence and has been selected to conduct workshops at her campus. Alondra's passion for helping others and her extensive experience make her a valuable asset to Special Pathways.
